Black Friday Gold

November 26th, 2007 Tengaport

While things didn’t go as planned Black Friday it doesn’t mean I came up empty handed. Here’s the haul the ‘busiest shopping day of the year’ brought in for me:

Stuntman: Ignition (Xbox 360) $20.00
This would’ve been a fantastic score had I not already gotten the game. Still, it’s trade value at Goozex is quite high and I’ve already traded it away for the points.

GR:AW2 (Xbox 360) $20.00
This is another game purchased purely for trade fodder. Its not worth as much as Stuntman, and I’m honestly not sure if it will trade any time soon. If it doesn’t go within the next few weeks I’ll just return it to Best Buy.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 1 (DVD) $17.00
My ‘investment’ in this show is long overdue, and with the looming drought in TV (courtesy of the writers strike) I’ll finally be able to catch up on it.

2GB Sandisk Ultra II CF Card (Gear) $15.00
Sure, the Ultra II cards are no more, but they still work just fine and for $15 for 2GB you can’t go wrong. I probably should have grabbed a few of these, but alas one will do.

Rainbow 6: Vegas LE (xbox 360) $20.00
This was purchased from Amazon.com with trading in mind but I’ll probably crack the seal on it first and play a bit more than I did last time I had the game. I dumped it originally (my first Goozex trade) thinking that GR:AW2 would make it obsolete. I couldn’t have been more wrong on that one, as R6V had much more life to it than GR:AW2. Oh well, live and learn.

2GB PC2700 333mhz Laptop Memory (Gear) $100
This was the deal that escaped my eyes while scanning the Black Friday flyers in my pre-Black Friday preparation. I saw plenty of memory listed, just didn’t notice the deals for the memory that WAS compatible with my laptop. I wasn’t able to find instant gratification, but I was able to track down a similar web offer and pony up the cash. Hopefully upgrading from 512MB to 2GB of RAM will extend my laptop’s life a few years.

And there you have it, Black Friday 2007 is history. Now to take on Cyber Monday :)

Getting there…

November 19th, 2007 Tengaport

Only 25 medals left to go in Advance Wars: Dual Strike and just over two months time to get them (Advance Wars: Days of Ruin comes out on Jan 21). Things are really starting to hear up medal wise now as I still have yet to get any for completing ‘hard’ or ‘brutal’ combat modes. Those are the only ones that have me worried right now.

In my quest I ranked Max up to what I assume is the maximum ranking of 100. I got a nice little history lesson about Advance wars from Rachel for doing so. Max’s rank turned into a crown and I’m guessing that’s the last change we’ll see for him. Wonder what happens when you fully rank up the rest of the characters? Guess I’ll keep pressing on to find out.

Giving up on Amazon.com (and Crush)

November 16th, 2007 Tengaport

Well, I’m not giving up on Amazon.com, more so giving up on their wishlist widget nonsense. The damn thing will just not co-operate and I’ve wasted too much time trying to figure out why. My wishlist is updated, but the only way to get to it seems to be by clicking the Amazon button on the right. I’m going to now get back to work on rebuilding the site the old fashioned way. Oh well…

With that out of the way, I think I am also done with Crush on the PSP. It’s puzzling, the game is really cool and unique with such a quirky storyline that it should be an instant hit with me. The problem is, I really just can’t get into the puzzle solving process. I wasn’t enjoying the challenges, or the problem solving for some odd reason. I’m hesitant to get rid of the game but I know I’m just never going to get around to playing it. I suppose I should really Goozex it while the Goozex-ing is still good.

I did finally crack the seal on Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, which out of all the games in my PSP backlog was the one I truly wanted to have at. I haven’t gotten to far into it just yet, but it has yet to dissapoint me. Hopefully Silent Hill: Origins will be in my hands by the time I’m finished with Gabe Logan.

Wishlist Issues

November 14th, 2007 Tengaport

Thanks to Tim for pointing out that the link in my Amazon Wish-List widget wasn’t working. A little research led me to discover this much MUCH better Wish-List Widget over at http://widgets.amazon.com/.

With that said, I’ve added it to the site on it’s own page now to make up for the current lack of a list. I think it looks much better and should be easier for my family to peruse if they wish to do so. My only complaint is that it won’t sort my alphabetical order. Oh well, it’ll do for now.

NOTE: I have just noticed that the widget still has it’s quirks. Currently there are items that are no longer on my wish list showing up. Trading Places, The Muppet Show Season 1 and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea have already been purchased, not sure why they are still listed. I’m beginning to wonder if the old fashioned way might just be easier after all. The holidays really isn’t the time to be messing around with this.

Finally started playing Crush

November 13th, 2007 Tengaport

It’s a very clever and challenging puzzle game backed by a bizzare and somewhat disturbed story-line. With that said the game is pissing me off to no end. I’ve only made it past the first batch of levels yet my blood pressure is through the roof. While the gameplay is innovative I’m just not getting it 100% and I’m having trouble solving the levels.

At first I was thinking it was just techniques that I needed to learn, but Crush just isn’t clicking yet. It’s disappointing because the game is quite unique and interesting, I just can’t seem to grasp it though for some reason.

I’m going to give it a few more attempts before pulling the plug but it just might beyond my puzzle-solving skills. If that’s the case I might just have to trade it away.

The 2007 Wishlist

November 6th, 2007 Tengaport

Been so busy lately I haven’t had time to update the wishlist part of this site, which is ironic because aside from some innate ramblings, the wishlist is this site’s sole purpose. I am having trouble nailing down the top picks for 2007, which as Tim pointed out is dangerous for this time of year.

I have been trying to keep my Amazon.com wishlist updated as best I can as that is familiar ground for my family during the holidays. This will have to suffice until I can get the rest of this site back up and running. Again, the reasoning behind switching to Wordpress is to make my wishlist as fully on-line editable as possible. I just haven’t figured out the best way to do it just yet. But I digress, without further delay here is my amazon.com wishlist:
