Dark Sector (Xbox 360) (Goozex.com)

I’m having some heavy second thoughts about letting this game go. I suppose I can always pick it up again (for cheap) if I feel the urge to run through it again though. Best to just grab the 1000 points while the getting is good.

My take on Dark Sector is “An excellent ‘dark’ sci-fi action game”.

Take game play mechanics from Gears of War, throw them into Resident Evil environments and slap a little dash of Bioshock storytelling on top and you’ve got the idea of what Dark Sector is all about. The game would’ve benefited from a little polish around the ends, but as an action game it more than delivers. Dual wielding a firearm and the glaive gives Dark Sector a fresh feel as opposed to countless other action games.

Hopefully there will be an eventual sequel, as I’d love to someday step back into the role as super bad-ass secret agent type guy. For $40 and under the game is worth every penny.

I have a severe case of ‘Gadget Envy’ brewing right now. While checking out the capabilities of the iPod Touch for Ev I’ve become somewhat smitten with the device myself. The iPhone is out of the question for me, but the iPod Touch sure would be a nice consolation prize. Granted the last thing in the world I need right now is another gadget in the gadget bag. Not to mention I already have a Pocket PC that can do pretty much everything the iPod touch can, just not nearly as well. As always though, it boils down to want vs. need.

Currently i have an 80GB iPod, and while it’s not full it does have more content on it than could fit on even the largest iPod touch. I would be willing to trade that space for the Touch’s extra features if only the price was a bit more ‘reasonable’.

Maybe I’ll pick one up for Ev and just use hers instead of getting one myself :)

Got my hands on Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 and Lego Indiana Jones yesterday. I had been looking forward to both, and so far neither have disappointed. I am floored that Lego Indiana Jones lacks co-op, but luckily I have someone under the same roof who is as eager as I am to play it.

Hot Shots is looking sharp, however I’m a little dismayed at the load times as compared to the first Open Tee. They are not bad, but the game is noticeably slower the second time around and it’s slightly irritating. Minor complaint, as the game is a blast and includes wifi play this time around.

To update the rest of my ‘Recently Playing’ list, here’s what else has been going on:

Dark Sector - Xbox 360
Very pleased with this Goozex pickup. Part Gears of War, part Lost Planet, part Resident Evil and a sprinkle of Bioshock make for a great, action-packed, sci-fi shooter of sorts. Looks great, plays great and is well worth picking up.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot - Xbox 360
Nothing really kind to say about this game yet. I’m still in the thick of it, so I’ll save my judgment for when I finish it (or give up in the middle). Its been overly frustrating and ultimately disappointing, but alas there is still hope.

Gears of War - Xbox 360
This one I blame on Dark Sector. Dark Sector was a great time, yet when I checked in on the multiplayer there was nothing but tumbleweeds. I popped on the disc and fired up Gears of War multiplayer to get my fix. While trying to get back into the swing of Gears I’ve ended up getting hooked on it again, and have my eye on some of the remaining multiplayer achievements that I need. I’ve got around 8,500 kills left before I get he seriously achievement so I’m not so sure about that one (at least not before Gears 2) but you never know…
