My gametime has been severly restricted as of late, but I did manage to get some hands on time with a couple of games. Here are my initial thoughts on a few of them:

Ghostbusters (Xbox 360)
I am a huge Ghostbusters fan, so it should be no surprise that I’m having a thoroughly good time with the game. The fan-serivce is through the roof with the music & sound effects taken directly from the film. Not to mention the excellent, original cast voice acting – though Bill Murray seems to be ‘phoning it in’ at times. Top it all off with cameos, inside jokes & film references and you have enough smiles in store to give Ghostbusters 2 a run for it’s money.

The game doesn’t play as strong as it’s ‘fan service’ offerings, but it’s no slouch. Controls are a bit stiff at first, but after some time with and upgrades to your proton pack you’ll soon posses both ‘the tools & the talent’ to get the job done.

The story has been drifting into the backseat a bit, but it’s certainly there and there and perhaps has enough meat on it’s bones to consider this game Ghosbusters 3.

Ghostbusters is one of those games that I can’t wait to get home and play some more. I’ll be sure to post more thoughts as I do just that.

Red Faction (Xbox 360)
Picked this up based on CAG recommendations and had been thoroughly enjoying it until Ghostbusters bumped it from my 360. I don’t generally do too well in open world games (I guess I like a bit more hand holding) but you can’t walk 5 feet in Red Faction without stumbling upon something to do. Hell, if there isn’t a mission nearby there is most certainly a building or structure that you can obliterate for no other reason than the pure joy of it.

The destructible environments in Red Faction have also paved the way for some very unique battles. During one particular firefight I found myself inside a building and backed into a corner. Enemies were creeping in on my location, but instead of digging my heels in to go down in a blaze of glory I came up with a plan. With my sledgehammer I smashed an escape hole in the wall, but before heading through it I blanketed the room in explosives. I made my escape, my pursuers swarmed the room and I detonated my explosives bringing the building down upon them. It was one of those rare yet awesome gaming moments.

Bionic Commando (Xbox 360)
I picked this up from Gamestop for $20 but haven’t given it a go just yet. I guess it doesn’t really qualify for a ‘currently playing’ post, but it was in the pic so I figured I’d mention it.

I’ve also been playing a handful of PSP games – Patapon 2, Rock Band Unplugged and Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! but I’ll get to those some other time
